NATIONAL NEWS

Odisha announces Rs 500 crore worth livelihood scheme for tribals
The Odisha government has announced a new livelihood and income-generating scheme for the tribal people with an outlay of Rs 500 crore, an official said. 

  • The ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare department will implement the livelihood cluster development initiative under Mukhya Mantri Janajati Jeebika Mission.
  • The state-funded scheme will be implemented in 119 tribal sub-plan (TSP) blocks of the state through 22 integrated tribal development agencies (ITDAs) utilising a total outlay of Rs 500 crore over a period of three years (2023-24 to 2025-26).

Corporate Affairs Ministry ropes in Grant Thornton Bharat to assist in capacity building
The Corporate Affairs Ministry (MCA) is going all out to build capacity among its cadre/ posts and other organisations to make them ‘future ready’ and to meet the requirements of a vision of ‘New India’.

  • The objective is to enhance the delivery system and create a ‘citizen centric, future ready civil service with the right attitude, skills and knowledge aligned to the vision of New India’.
  • Towards this end, MCA has appointed Grant Thornton Bharat LLP to assist in the formulation of an Annual Capacity Building Plan (ACBP), sources familiar with the developments said.

Africa-India joint exercise AFINDEX- 2023 commences in Pune
The second edition of the Africa-India Field Training Exercise (AFINDEX- 2023) between India and 23 nations of the African continent commenced at Foreign Training Node, Aundh, Pune. The theme of the exercise is focused on Humanitarian Mine Action and Peace Keeping Operations. 

  • According to the official statement, 100 Participants from Botswana, Cameroon, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Seychelles, Senegal, Sudan, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, are attending this unique field training exercise. 

PM Modi inaugurates ITU Area Office & Innovation Centre 
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the new International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Area office & Innovation Centre in India at a programme in Vigyan Bhawan. The Prime Minister also unveiled the Bharat 6G Vision Document and launched the 6G R&D Test Bed. He also launched the ‘Call before u Dig’ App. 

  • ITU is the United Nations’ specialized agency for information and communication technologies (ICTs). India signed a Host Country Agreement in March 2022 with ITU for the establishment of Area Office. 
  • It will serve India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Afghanistan and Iran, enhancing coordination among nations and fostering mutually beneficial economic cooperation in the region.

Over Rs 2 lakh 41 thousand crore to over 11 crore farmers in country under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme
The government has so far disbursed over two lakh 41 thousand crore rupees to over 11 crore farmers in the country under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, PM-KISAN.

  • In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said under the scheme an amount of six thousand rupees per year is transferred in three 4-month installments of two thousand rupees directly into the bank accounts of the farmers.

Bangladesh commissions its first submarine base
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the first submarine base of Bangladesh ‘BNS Sheikh Hasina’ at Pekua in Cox’s Bazar. 

  • Hailing the newly inaugurated naval base as an ‘ultra modern submarine base’, Prime Minister called the event a proud chapter in the history of Bangladesh navy.
  • Inaugurating the submarine base virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban in Dhaka, Prime Minister Hasina said that the newly commissioned submarine base would help navy increase its operational capacity to secure the vast marine resources. 


BANKING & FINANCE

RBL Bank fined Rs 2.3 crore for breach of norms on recovery agents
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said it fined RBL Bank Ltd Rs 2.27 crore for not complying with certain directives on loan recovery agents.

  • The RBI noticed “deficiencies in regulatory compliance” after it examined complaints received against the Mumbai-based lender’s recovery agents during the financial years 2018-19 to 2021-22, the central bank said in a statement.

Pnb Metlife launches ‘Genius Plan’ to help parents
PNB MetLife has launched the Genius Plan, an insurance plan to help parents save for their child’s future and provide them with financial security. 

  • It offers guaranteed benefits, flexibility to save, a higher benefit for the girl child, an in-built waiver of premium on death, and ATPD protection.
  • This individual, non-linked, and non-participating life insurance plan provides both life insurance coverage and a savings plan that can be used to fund a child’s college education. Finally, parents have a chance to relax knowing that their children will have the necessary funds for higher education without having to worry about depleting their own savings.

NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd. signs MoU with Indian Army for the implementation of Green Hydrogen Projects in Army Establishments
NTPC REL has signed an MoU with INDIAN ARMY for setting up Green Hydrogen Projects in its establishments on Build, Own and Operate (BOO) model. 

  • The intent is to reduce complex logistics, dependence on fossil fuels and to accelerate decarbonization. 
  • Under the ambit of the MoU, a joint identification of potential sites would be undertaken for setting up of green hydrogen projects for supplying electricity, in a phased manner. NTPC REL will also design, develop, and install renewable energy projects (solar, wind etc.) for the Indian Army.

Ranveer Singh surpasses Virat Kohli to become India’s most valued celebrity of 2022: Report
Actor Ranveer Singh is India’s most valued celebrity of 2022, according to a report by corporate investigation and risk consulting firm, Kroll.

  • With a brand value of $181.7 million, Singh has dethroned cricketer Virat Kohli, who occupied the top spot for five years, according to the report, titled “Celebrity Brand Valuation Report 2022: Beyond the Mainstream”.
  • Kohli fell to second spot with a brand value of $176.9 million. Actor Akshay Kumar remained in third position with a brand value of $153.6 million. With a valuation of $102.9 million, actress Alia Bhatt also retained the fourth spot and the title of the most valued female celebrity.Deepika Padukone’s brand valuation of $82.9 million earned her the fifth spot.
  • Amitabh Bachchan, Hritik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan were other big names from the film industry that made it to the top 10 list of most valued celebrities.
