PM inaugurates newly-built Matushri K.D.P. Multispecialty Hospital at Atkot in Gujarat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly-built Matushri K.D.P. Multispecialty Hospital, in Atkot, Rajkot.

  • It will make available high-end medical equipment and provide world-class healthcare facilities to the people of the region.
  • He will also inaugurate the Nano Urea (Liquid) Plant constructed at IFFCO, Kalol at a cost of around Rs 175 crores.The ultramodern Nano Fertilizer Plant has been established keeping in mind the increase in crop yield through the use of Nano Urea. The Plant will produce about 1.5 lakh bottles of 500 ml per day.

Government sets target to achieve 100 MT coal gasification by 2030
The Government of India has set a target to increase coal gasification to 100 million tonnes (MT) by 2030, V K Tiwari, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal, said.

  • He said the government has prepared a National Mission document to achieve 100 MT Coal Gasification by 2030.
  • Tiwari said that technological advancements are offering greater coal recovery, flexibility in mining operations, increased productivity, greater safety and lowering cost.

PM Modi inaugurates India’s biggest drone festival
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Bharat Drone Mahotsav 2022, India’s biggest drone festival, at Delhi’s Pragati Maidan.

  • The prime minister will interact with Kisan Drone pilots and startups in the drone exhibition centre. He will also witness open-air drone demonstrations.
  • During the two-day event on May 27 and 28, over 1600 delegates comprising government officials, foreign diplomats, armed forces, central armed police forces, PSUs, private companies and drone startups are expected to participate in the drone festival, according to prime minister’s office.

Rajnath Singh approves new Defence Estates Circle in Uttarakhand
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the proposal for the creation of a new Defence Estates Circle exclusively for Uttarakhand.

  • In view of the difficulties faced in managing large tracts of defence land in the state and the demand of cantonment residents in Uttrakhand, the MoD will establish an independent office of Defence Estates at Dehradun and a sub-office at Ranikhet.
  • The creation of a new Defence Estates Circle at Dehradun exclusively for Uttrakhand will facilitate the residents/ organisations in getting timely and quick access to various services of defence land management.

Delhi Customs launches Project ‘NIGAH’ at ICD Garhi Harsaru, Gurugram
Chief Commissioner, Delhi Customs Zone, Surjit Bhujabal inaugurated project ‘NIGAH’ at ICD Garhi Harsaru, Gurugram. ICTM (ICD Container Tracking Module) has been developed in collaboration with the Custodian M/s. GRFL. A live demo of the project was given to all the participants.

  • Project NIGAH is an initiative to track container by using ICTM (ICD Container Tracking Module) which will help in better visibility of the container movement inside the ICD. It will help Customs to expedite long standing containers and monitor timely clearances, thereby enhancing Ease of Doing Business along with ensuring lead preventive checks.
  • This innovative development at local level to provide granular level visibility supporting ease of monitoring and to synergise the technological platforms introduced by the government with other stakeholders’ platforms, which will lead India to high standards of EXIM trade.

Rajasthan govt approves guidelines for implementation of new urban employment scheme
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot approved new guidelines for the implementation of ‘Indira Gandhi Shahari Rozgar Yojana‘.

  • The scheme was announced by Gehlot in the 2022-23 budget to provide employment in urban areas on the lines of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
  • Under the new urban employment scheme, 100 days of employment per year will be provided to the families residing in urban areas. The state government will spend Rs 800 crore per year on this ambitious scheme, an official statement said.

Union Minister of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh inaugurated India’s first ‘Lavender Festival’ in Bhaderwah. 

  • Lavender Festival in the valley of Bhaderwah is the best example of the development of the present progressive government at the centre. Bhaderwah is the best place for lavender cultivation in terms of land and climate.


BANKING & FINANCE

₹100 is the most preferred banknote, ₹2,000 the least: RBI survey
The Reserve Bank of India’s Banknote Survey of Consumers findings revealed that, among banknotes, ₹100 was the most preferred while ₹2,000 was the least preferred denomination.

  • Among coins, denomination of ₹5 was the most preferred whereas ₹1 was the least preferred.
  • Around three per cent of the respondents were not aware of any banknote security feature. Overall, approximately 7 out of 10 respondents were found to be satisfied with the new series of banknotes.
  • Among the Visually Impaired Respondents, majority were found to be aware of the quality of paper and size of the banknotes.

RBI reduces net-worth requirement for non-bank Bharat Bill Payment units to ₹25 crore
Non-banking companies now need ₹25 crore minimum net worth to set up Bharat Bill Payment Operating Units (BBPOU), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) informed.

  • The minimum net-worth criterion for non-bank firms has been lowered from the earlier minimum net worth requirement of ₹100 crore. This means that developing a payment app will be easier now, and businesses like Phonepe, Google Pay and Paytm will face increased competition.
  • Users of BBPS enjoy benefits like standardised bill payment experience, centralised customer grievance redressal mechanism and prescribed customer convenience fee.

Japanese lender MUFG Bank to set up a branch in GIFT City, sixth in India
Japanese lender MUFG Bank will establish a branch at the Gujarat International Financial Tec City (GIFT City) in Ahmedabad for foreign currency-denominated lending business. This will be its sixth branch in India.

  • MUFG can support its domestic as well as global clients with an expanded suite of financial services. At present it has presence in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Neemrana.

FIEO launches first of its kind B2B digital marketplace for exporters, MSMEs and farmers
The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has launched the first-of-its-kind online marketplace for Indian exporters and foreign buyers.

  • The marketplace ‘Indian Business Portal, will act as a B2B digital marketplace to help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) exporters, artisans and farmers to identify new markets for their products and grow their sales globally.
  • The marketplace has been designed and developed in partnership with GlobalLinker, which already provides a business networking platform for SMEs and startups.  The portal will digitize Indian exporters and help them become discoverable online, promote exports from all Indian states, and showcase a wider range of products and services.

CCEA clears sale of govt’s 29.5% stake in Hindustan Zinc valued at Rs 38,000 crore
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the government’s 29.5% stake sale in Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL), as the Centre looks to accelerate its disinvestment drive, as some key privatisation proposals have hit hurdles.

  • The sale of the entire 29.5% stake in HZL could fetch around ₹38,000 crore to the exchequer.
  • The development would give a push to the government’s disinvestment drive in the current financial year. The Centre has budgeted ₹65,000 crore from PSU disinvestment and strategic sale.

Adani Ent to acquire 50% stake in General Aeronautics
Adani Defence Systems and Technologies, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises signed a definitive agreement to acquire a 50% stake in Bengaluru-based commercial drone maker General Aeronautics for cash consideration.

  • Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Billionaire Gautam Adani-led conglomerate, said that the acquisition will be completed by 31 July, 2022.
  • Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Limited shall leverage its military drone and AI/ML capabilities and work with General Aeronautics for providing end-to-end solutions for the domestic agricultural sector.

President appoints Justice Mohanty as Acting Chairperson, Lokpal
President Ram Nath Kovind has given justice Pradip Kumar Mohanty the additional charge of Lokpal chairperson after justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose completed his term as the Lokpal chief.

  • At present, there are six members in the Lokpal. Two posts of judicial members have been lying vacant for over two years.
  • The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, which envisages the appointment of a Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in states to look into cases of corruption against certain categories of public servants, was passed in 2013.

Lovlina Borgohain elected as IBA Athletes Committee Chair
India’s Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain has been elected as chairman and voting member on the Board of Directors for the IBA’s Athletes Committee, the International Boxing Association (IBA) has announced.

  • Indian male boxer Shiva Thapa has also been elected as a member of the IBA Athletes Committee, during the corresponding elections held during the 2021 IBA Men’s World Championships, the IBA announced.
  • Lovlina had received the highest number of votes during the election held at the 2022 Women’s World Championship and thus has been elected as chair of the board.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui receives Excellence in Cinema Award at French Riviera Film Festival
Bollywood actor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been honoured with an international award for his contribution to cinema. 

  • At the prestigious French Riviera Film Festival, Emmy award-winning American actor Vincent De Paul bestowed the honour to Siddiqui.
  • This is not the first time that Nawazuddin has brought accolades back home. Previously, the actor was chosen as one of the delegates to receive awards on behalf of the nation at the Cannes Film Festival.


SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY 

India to introduce “made in India” skin test for TB 
India will introduce a newly approved “made in India” TB infection skin test called ‘c-TB’, said Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, adding that this cost-effective tool will be of immense benefit to other high burden countries as well.

  • He also informed that a new initiative, “Adopt people with TB” will be launched this year, based on Indian values of collectivism, which will call upon corporates, industries, organisations, political parties and individuals to come forward and adopt TB-infected people and family and provide them with nutritional and social support.

GRSE launches Indian Navy survey vessel ‘INS Nirdeshak’
Nirdeshak, the second of the four Survey Vessels (Large) (SVL) projects being built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) in collaboration with L&T shipbuilding for the Indian Navy was launched, at Kattupalli, Chennai.

  • The vessel made its first contact with the water of the Bay of Bengal at 10:38 am at the launch ceremony graced by the Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Eastern Naval Command.
  • The ship has taken its name from erstwhile Nirdeshak which was also an Indian Naval Survey ship and was decommissioned after 32 years of glorious service in December 2014.
