Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs to observe “Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta Ek Saath” on 1st October as part of Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign
Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has created an event on SHS Portal for Ek Taarikh–Ek Ghanta-Ek Saath, a Special Program on Shramdaan for Swachhata at Navyug School, Peshwa Road, New Delhi and its surroundings.

  • The Officers/officials will participate in the above shramdaan along with teachers, students and the general public from the vicinity. The event is being publicized for ensuring greater participation of the public.

Coal Ministry signs Agreements with Successful Bidders of Six Coal Mines for Commercial Mining
The Ministry of Coal has executed agreements with six successful bidders of coal mines under Commercial Mining in 7th round of auctions. The momentous event marked the successful auction of 91 coal mines ever since the inception of   Commercial Coal Mining in the country by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2020. Out of these six coal mines, four mines have undergone partial exploration and the other two are  fully explored.

  • The mines for which these agreements have been executed are Meenakshi West, North Dhadu (Eastern Part), North Dhadu (Western Part), Pathora East, Pathora West and Sherband. The Successful Bidders encompasses notable entities such Hindalco Industries Limited, NTPC Mining Limited, NLC India Limited, Shri Bajrang Power & Ispat Limited and Nilkanth Mining Limited.

NLC India Limited Signs Power Purchase  Agreement with GRIDCO Limited for 800MW
NLC India Limited (NLCIL) under the Ministry of Coal  and GRIDCO Limited signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in GRIDCO Limited , Bhubaneswar for 400MW in Stage-1 and 400 MW in Stage-2 of NLCIL’s proposed Neyveli Talabira Super Critical Thermal Power Station (NTTPP) in Odisha.

  • With this agreement, NLCIL has tied up its full capacity of 2400 MW of Neyveli Talabira Super Critical Thermal Power Station Stage-I.


BANKING & FINANCE

Warehousing Development Regulatory Authority signs Memorandum of Understanding with Bank of India to facilitate low interest rate loans to farmers
To facilitate farmers and traders in providing low interest rate loans, Warehousing Development Regulatory Authority (WDRA) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Bank of India (BoI).

  • The MoU was signed with the intent of promoting awareness to fund against e-NWRs (electronic Negotiable Warehouse Receipt).
  • The MoU also aims to provide information to depositors of the benefits, besides doing further outreach activities to improve agricultural pledge finance in India.

Renewable Energy Company IREDA gets upgraded from ‘Schedule B’ to ‘Schedule A’ Central Public Sector Enterprise
The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) has been upgraded from the ‘Schedule B’ category to the ‘Schedule A’ category of Central Public Sector Enterprises. This upgrade is a recognition of its contributions in the field of renewable energy and green financing.

  • The upgrade to the ‘Schedule A’ category opens up the possibility for IREDA to further elevate its status to “Navratna,” which is a higher level of classification for public sector enterprises in India. This would grant IREDA increased financial autonomy.

Amit Shah inaugurates the permanent campus of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Gandhinagar
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the permanent campus of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Ahmedabad, in Gujarat.

  • He said that NIPER, Gandhinagar, which has eight buildings on about 60 acres, will make essential contributions in the field of medicine not only for the country but for all the world. NIPER Gandhinagar has been ranked among the top 10 pharmacy institutes of the country since the last three years.

Rohan Bopanna-Rutuja Bhosale clinch Asian Games gold in mixed doubles
Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale defeated Chinese Taipei to win gold in mixed doubles. The duo won the match with 2-6 6-3 10-4 against Chinese Taipei.

  • With the win, India maintained the stellar streak of at least a gold in each of the six Asian Games editions this century.
  • This was Bopanna’s second medal at the Asiad after the Indian tennis veteran won the men’s doubles gold at Jakarta 2018 and huge reprieve as well after he shockingly went down in second round of men’s doubles, with partner Yuki Bhambri, earlier this week, a pair that was touted to claim the gold. For Rutuja, meanwhile, it was her maiden medal haul at the continental meet.

Asian Games: India bag gold with 2-1 win over Pakistan in men’s squash
The Indian contingent for the Asian Games 2023 in China’s Hangzhou has added another gold to their tally, as they defeated Pakistan in the men’s squash team event.

  • The 2-1 victory came after an intense back-and-forth game, whose outcome was decided only in the final round. In the end, Indian team’s Abhai Singh succeeded in outperforming his Pakistani opponent Zaman Noor to bag the top title.
  • Singh won the final round match with 3 points, as against 2 scored by Noor. The overall score of the last round was as follows: 11-7, 9-11, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10.


APPOINTMENTS

Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan takes over as Director General Border Roads
Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan took over as the 28th Director General Border Roads (DGBR). He assumed the charge following the superannuation of Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry.

  • Prior to his appointment as the DGBR, the General Officer was holding the appointment of Commandant, College of Military Engineering, Pune.


AWARDS

Mathematician Ruixiang Zhang to receive 2023 Sastra Ramanujan Prize
Ruixiang Zhang, an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, USA, will receive the 2023 SASTRA Ramanujan Prize for his exceptional contributions to mathematics.

  • The annual cash prize of USD 10,000 will be given at an international conference in Number Theory during December 20 and December 22 at SASTRA University in Kumbakonam, mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan’s hometown.
  • The age limit for the prize has been set at 32 influenced by Ramanujan’s achievements in his brief life of 32 years.
