Election Commission launches year-long voter awareness program on All India Radio
The Election Commission launched Matadata Junction, a year-long voter awareness program on All India Radio.

  • A total 52-episode programme of 15-minute duration each will be broadcast every Friday on Vividh Bharati stations, FM Rainbow, FM Gold and Primary channels of AIR. The Matadata Junction programme will be broadcast in 23 languages across the country.
  • Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar launched the Program in the presence of Election Commissioner Anoop Chandra Pandey, CEO Prasar Bharati Mayank Kumar Agrawal  and Director General AIR News Vasudha Gupta in New Delhi.


SBI announces launch of Gram Seva program across 6 States of India
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the State Bank of India announced that it will adopt 30 remote villages across India under the 4th phase of the ‘SBI Gram Seva’ program. 

  • Under the flagship scheme of the SBI Foundation, the bank will adopt remote villages across Aspirational Districts in Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal.
  • Launched under the Corporate Social Responsibility of the bank, the program emphasises a comprehensive development of villages by active intervention in areas like education, healthcare, livelihoods, and infrastructure. As of now, the program has adopted 100 villages across 16 States in 3 phases.

RBI launches advanced supervisory monitoring system DAKSH
Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das launched a new ‘SupTech’ initiative DAKSH – the bank’s Advanced Supervisory Monitoring System, which is expected to make the supervisory processes more robust.

  • DAKSH is a web-based end-to-end workflow application through which RBI shall monitor compliance requirements in a more focused manner with the objective of further improving the compliance culture in Supervised Entities (SEs) like Banks, NBFCs, etc.
  • The application will also enable seamless communication, inspection planning and execution, cyber incident reporting and analysis, and provision of various MIS reports, among others, through a platform which enables anytime-anywhere secure access.


FinMin allows airlines to avail up to Rs 1,500 crore loan under ECLGS
The Union Finance Ministry allowed airlines to avail of up to Rs 1,500 crore loan under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS), to help them tide over their cash flow problems.

  • Earlier, an airline could avail of a loan of not more than Rs 400 crore under the ECLGS. The Centre had in 2020 started the ECLGS to provide collateral-free and government-guaranteed loans to businesses affected by the Covid pandemic.

Google to build its first cloud region in)Greece 
Alphabet Inc’s Google will set up its first cloud region in Greece, the company said, giving a boost to the country’s efforts to become a world cloud computing hub.

  • The deal is estimated to contribute some 2.2 billion euros ($2.13 billion) to Greece’s economic output and create some 20,000 jobs by 2030, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said.
  • Since taking office in 2019, Mitsotakis’s conservative government has stepped up moves to diversify the economy and attract foreign investment and high tech companies to the country which emerged from a decade-long financial crisis in 2018.


Rest of India beat Saurashtra by eight wickets to win Irani Trophy
The Rest of India’s side won the Irani Cup title and defeated the Ranji Trophy Champion of 2019-2020 Saurashtra by 8 wickets in Rajkot. Rest of India (ROI) chased down the 105-run target, with Abhimanyu Easwaran remaining undefeated on 63 runs while adding 81 runs and Kona Bharat not out at 27.

  • Kuldeep Sen took most of the wickets in the first innings against Saurashtra.ROI dominated Saurashtra from the opening day when they clean-bowled the opposing team for 98.
  • The eight-wicket partnership of Jaydev Unadkat and Prerak Mankad, however, Kuldeep Sen changed the game in the favor of ROI.


Indian-origin Vivek Murthy is US representative on WHO executive board
US President Joe Biden has nominated Dr Vivek Murthy to serve as America’s representative on the executive board of the World Health Organisation.

  • Dr Murthy, 45, will serve in the new position alongside his continued duties as the US Surgeon General, the White House said in a statement.
  • He was confirmed by the US Senate in March 2021 to serve as the 21st Surgeon General of the country. He previously served as the 19th Surgeon General under President Barack Obama.

Actor Pankaj Tripathi declared ‘National Icon’ by Election Commission of India
Election Commission of India (ECI) in creating awareness amongst voters, Actor Pankaj Tripathi has been declared as the ‘National Icon’ of ECI.

  • The actor was chosen for the honour by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar for keeping in view his commitment to the cause and wide appeal across the country.
  • An event on the ‘Voter Awareness Program’, CEC Rajiv Kumar complimented ECI state icon, Pankaj Tripathi, for his association with ECI in creating voting awareness across citizens, and henceforth declared him as the National Icon for ECI.

Ibrahim Traore declared Burkina Faso president 
Captain Ibrahim Traore has been appointed as president of Burkina Faso after Paul-Henri Damiba was removed in the West African country’s second coup in less than nine months.

  • The Sahel country plunged into political turmoil on September 30 after a group of officers decided to remove Damiba due to his inability to deal with a worsening armed uprising, dissolved the transitional government and suspended the constitution.


India’s PR Sreejesh, Savita Punia voted FIH Men’s and Women’s Goalkeepers of Year
India’s PR Sreejesh and Savita Punia were voted FIH Men’s and Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year respectively for the second year running, on the back of their strong shows under the bar.

  • In his 16th year as a full international for India, Sreejesh once again showed his value to the team, playing in all 16 games in the FIH Hockey Pro League as India finished in the third position.He also played in all six games at 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games where India won the silver medal.
  • Sreejesh is the third player to win back-to-back FIH Goalkeeper of the Year award. A similar feat was achieved in the past by David Harte (Ireland) who won the award in 2015 and 2016, and Vincent Vanasch (Belgium) who won it three consecutive times from 2017 to 2019.
