Government approves scheme for Viability Gap Funding for development of Battery Energy Storage Systems with an initial outlay of about Rs. 9,400 crore
The Government approved the Scheme for Viability Gap Funding ( VGF ) for the development of Battery Energy Storage Systems ( BESS).

  • Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said, the scheme envisages the development of four thousand Mega Watt hour of BESS projects by 2030-31, with the financial support of up to 40 percent of the capital cost as budgetary support.
  • He said, it has an initial outlay of about 9,400 crore rupees including budgetary support of 3,760 crore rupees. He informed that the VGF shall be disbursed in five tranches linked with the various stages of implementation of BESS projects.

World’s tallest Nataraja statue installed at G20 summit venue
The world’s tallest Nataraja statue has been installed at Bharat Mandapam, the venue of the G20 summit in Delhi.

  • The 28-foot-tall statue weighing 20 tonnes was made in a record time of seven months by sculptor Radhakrishnan Sthapathy and his team at Swamimalai in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu.
  • The statue was built in Ashtadhatu (8 metals) using the traditional casting method. The statue was transported to the national capital in four days and a special green corridor was created for its transportation.

IAF & Drone Federation of India to co-host Bharat Drone Shakti – 2023 at IAF airbase in Hindan Ghaziabad, UP from 25th September
Indian Air Force (IAF) and Drone Federation of India will co-host Bharat Drone Shakti – 2023 at the Indian Air Force airbase in Hindan Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Defence Ministry said, the usage of drones in India is seeing an increase – both, in the military, as well as in the civil domain.

  • The two-day Bharat Drone Shakti will present the prowess of the Indian drone industry at full capacity hosting over 50 live aerial demonstrations. It will showcase survey drones, agriculture drones, fire suppression drones, and tactical surveillance drones and witness participation from more than 75 drone start-ups and corporates.

Prayagraj police launches ‘Savera’ scheme to assist senior citizens
The Prayagraj police have launched the ‘Savera’ scheme that offers services during health and other emergencies to senior citizens in seven districts of the Prayagraj zone.

  • The Fatehpur police have taken the lead with over 700 senior citizens having registered themselves in the past three days.
  • Under the scheme, police are maintaining a record of people aged 60 and above and are available on call on helpline number 112 for quick response.

Green Hydrogen Pilots in India’ conference held in the run-up to G20 Summit
A day-long conference on “Green Hydrogen Pilots in India” was held in New Delhi in the run-up to the G20 Summit. The conference showcased various Green Hydrogen Pilots being implemented by both public and private sector companies in India.

  • The conference which was hosted by NTPC Ltd, also presented pioneering innovative pilots and progress in green hydrogen technology.
  • India’s commitment to green hydrogen sets it apart from countries using natural gas-based hydrogen with higher emissions.India aims to be an influential exporter and a leader in the green hydrogen approach.

IAF Western Air Command’s annual exercise Trishul gets underway
The annual training exercise, Trishul, of the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Western Air Command (WAC) began. The exercise will see activation of all air assets and force multipliers spread across the Line of Control with Pakistan to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.

  • The exercise validate the command’s operational preparedness and will see the employment of all the frontline assets from fighter jets, transport aircraft, helicopters and other force multipliers in high tempo.

Sanchi becomes India’s first solar city
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the world heritage monument site Sanchi Nagar located in Raisen district as the first solar city. 

  • In the programme, an agreement was signed between the state department of renewable energy and IIT Kanpur to make Sanchi a net zero city.
  • According to the energy department, Sanchi Solar City will reduce the emissions of more than 14,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, which is equivalent to more than 238,000 trees. E-vehicles have been promoted. Four commercial charging points and three e-rickshaw charging points have been installed. The use of battery vehicles will also result in saving more than ₹9 lakh worth of diesel.

Induslnd Bank to ink multi-year sponsorship deal with ICC
Induslnd Bank has agreed to a multi-year sponsorship deal with the International Cricket Council (ICC). The deal is set to be valued at $20-24 million (approximately Rs 160-200 crore). The multi-year deal would kick off with the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, being held in India.

  • Mastercard, MRF tyres, Aramco, Emirates and Booking.com have also signed top-tier sponsorship deals with ICC.
  • Mastercard and Induslnd Bank are set to replace fintech platform, BharatPe and edtech platform, BYJU’s as the companies decided to end their association with ICC ahead of the deal’s full tenure.

SBI Card for MSMEs launched
SBI Card has launched ‘SimplySAVE Merchant SBI Card’ for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), with the offer of short-term credit options and other exclusive benefits.

  • The SimplySAVE Merchant SBI Card addresses the need for easy and timely access to formal credit by providing interest-free short-term credit to MSMEs.
  • The SimplySAVE Merchant SBI Card operates on the RuPay network and can be linked to UPI for payments through UPI-enabled third-party apps.

Indian government launches G20 India mobile app for visitors: Virtual Tours, Yoga Break and more
Delhi is set to host the 18th G20 Summit, under India’s Presidency, showcasing groundbreaking consensus on shaping the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) of the future. Ministry of External Affairs in India has launched the mobile application titled ‘G20 India’, marking a significant digital milestone ahead of the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

  • The app offers users a comprehensive, interactive guide to event-related information. Features of the platform include a calendar for the G20 India 2023 event, resources, media, and insightful details about the G20.
