A2Z Night Mixed Section Quiz 1

Aspirants Zone Presents special Night Mixed Sectional Quiz for its readers to practice all the sections in one go.

Direction (1-5):In the following questions, two equations numbered are given in variables x and y. You have to solve both the equations and find out the relationship between x and y. Then give answer accordingly –

  1. I. x2 – (13+√2)x +13√2 = 0
    II. y2 – (4 + √3)y + 4√3 = 0
    A) If x > y
    B) If x < y
    C) If x ≥ y
    D) If x ≤ y
    E) If x = y or relation cannot be established
    View Answer
    Option E
    Explanation
: I. For such type of question find two factors who multiplication = A*C and Sum=B
when the quadratic equation is in the form Ax2 + Bx + C =0
In the middle term i.e B part the two numbers are 13 and √2, there sum = B and multiplication is also equal to A*C i.e 13√2. So the roots are x=√2 and 13 both positive.
II. Similarly here 4*√3 =A*C and 4 + √3 =B , so roots are 4 and √3. Note that here both roots have positive sign.
Arrange the roots on number line
    √2(x)…..√3(y)……4(y)…..13(x) Hence no relation.
  2. I. x2 + 2(1-√3)x -4√3 = 0
    II. y2 – (4+3√3)y + 12√3 = 0
    A) If x > y
    B) If x < y
    C) If x ≥ y
    D) If x ≤ y
    E) If x = y or relation cannot be established
    View Answer
    Option B
    Explanation
:Her the roots are 2 and 2√3 as they satisfy the condition A*C= 4√3 and B=Sum , but one of them will be negative in this case, to find out which one will be negative just open the bracket of B term i.e. 2(1-√3)x  = 2 -2√3, the term which is negative here, will be positive in the real root, i.e 2√3 will be positive, and 2 will be negative
So roots are x -2, 2√3II. In case of Ay – By + C= 0 ; both roots are positive, so in this case boot the roots will be positive, y=3√3 and 4
    draw on the number line
    -2 (x)………… 2√3 (x)………. 3√3 (y)…………. 4(y)
  3. I. x2 + (3-4√3)x -12√3 = 0
    II. y2 – (5+4√3)y + 20√3 = 0
    A) If x > y
    B) If x < y
    C) If x ≥ y
    D) If x ≤ y
    E) If x = y or relation cannot be established
    View Answer
    Option E
    Explanation
    :I. x=-3, 4√3
    II. y=5, 4√3
    Draw on number line
    -3 (x)………. 5 (y)……..4√3 (x,y)
  4. I. 1/(x+1)2 = (81)-1/2
    II. y2 -10y +16 = 0
    A) If x > y
    B) If x < y
    C) If x ≥ y
    D) If x ≤ y
    E) If x = y or relation cannot be established
    View Answer
    Option D
    Explanation
    :I. 1/(x+1)2 = 1/9 ; cross multiply ans get quadratic equation: x2 + 2x – 8 = 0
    x=-4,2
    II. y=2,8
  5. I. 5x = z2
    II. 36y2 = z4
    A) If x > y
    B) If x < y
    C) If x ≥ y
    D) If x ≤ y
    E) If x = y or relation cannot be established
    View Answer
    Option A
    Explanation
    : I. x= z2 /5
    II. y = +/- z2 /6
Suppose z square a constant, for x the denominator is less to the value will be grater than y
