Government launches mobile app to ease child deliveries in peripheral areas
With the motto to improve labour room quality, the government has launched LaQshya, a safe delivery mobile application for health workers who manage normal and complicated deliveries in peripheral areas.
- The initiative will be implemented in Government Medical Colleges besides district hospitals, and high delivery load sub-district hospitals and Community Health Centres.
Government launches first NIC-CERT to prevent, predict cyber attacks on government utilities
Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad launched first NIC-CERT, a setup of National Informatics Centre to prevent and predict cyber attacks on government utilities.
- NIC-CERT has been setup with the objective of creating a comprehensive framework that integrates world class security components and inbuilt threat intelligence for detection, prevention and incident response.
15th RIC trilateral meet held in New Delhi
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj held the 15th Russia-India-China (RIC) trilateral meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New Delhi.
- They discussed terrorism, the political scenario in the Middle East and North Africa, different challenges in putting world economy back on growth track, transnational organised crime, illicit drug trafficking, etc.
India’s first EMC is coming to Andhra Pradesh
India’s first Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) will be coming to Andhra Pradesh. The Government of India, through the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeiTY), had announced in 2012 about setting up an EMC in India, with grant-in-aid for establishing such clusters.
Hyderabad to become ‘beggar-free’ city
Hyderabad once again launched a drive to turn Hyderabad into “Beggar Free” city which was earlier put to halt after rumors that the drive was initiated because of US president Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump to the city.
WB announces life insurance of ₹5 lakh each for pilgrims
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee announced a life insurance of ₹5 lakh each for pilgrims visiting the state for the upcoming Gangasagar fair, the second biggest pilgrimage fair after Kumbh. The premium in this regard will be borne entirely by the state.
Google ‘Posts’ that brings results from verified users now in India
In a bid to give users timely updates from verified users such as celebrities and organisations directly from the source, Google announced the launch of “Posts” feature in India.
- “To get started, do a Google search for the name you want to claim, click on the little sentence under the ‘Knowledge Panel’ asking if you manage the online presence, and follow the instructions,” the company wrote in a blog post.
- In addition, users will now find images, videos, GIFs, events, and polls posted directly by the person or organisation being searched for.
Delhi-NCR most expensive office location in India
As per the report titled, “Office Space Across the World 2017”, Delhi-NCR ranks at 84th position in the list of most expensive office locations globally.
- With rental values almost as high as ₹ 430 per square feet per month, Delhi and NCR is the most expensive office location in the country followed by Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai.

World’s largest automated container terminal opens in Shanghai
China started trial operations of the world’s biggest automated container terminal – the Shanghai Yangshan Deep Water Port – in the country’s commercial hub. The port will help consolidate Shanghai port’s standing as the world’s busiest container port and further support Shanghai’s efforts to become a world shipping centre.
Mount Hope named UK’s new highest peak
British authorities have named Mount Hope as the country’s new highest peak. Hope, which is sited in the part of the Antarctic claimed by the UK, was recently re-measured and found to tower above the previous title holder, Mount Jackson.
Cinemas to re-open in Saudi Arabia after 35 years
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture and Information has announced that commercial cinemas would be allowed to operate in the Kingdom as of early 2018. They will be re-opened after 35 years.

India to host 81 matches from 2019-2023: BCCI
BCCI announced that India will host 81 more home games in the 2019-23 cycle. With this, it also announced that the total number of playing days relating to the 2019-2023 time period for India have been reduced to 306. The decision was taken after Virat Kohli expressed his reservation with the amount of cricket that’s being played.

Shubhankar Sharma of India won the Joburg Open golf tournament in sensational style to qualify for next year’s edition of the British Open.
Australia wins Men’s Hockey World League title
Australia retained their Hockey World League Final title with a 2-1 victory over Olympic champions Argentina. The tournament was held at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
- Hosts India won the bronze medal with a 2-1 victory over Germany.
