India launches ‘Operation Ajay’ to evacuate Indian national from Israel-Hamas conflict zone
India has launched Operation Ajay to facilitate the return from Israel of its citizens who wish to return. In a social media post External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar said, special charter flights and other arrangements being put in place. He said, Government is fully committed to the safety and well-being of Indian nationals abroad.

  • Indian Embassy in Israel said, it has emailed the first lot of registered Indian citizens for the special flight. The Embassy said, it has been working constantly to help fellow citizens in Israel through a 24-hour helpline. It urged people to remain calm and vigilant and follow the security advisories.

Government approves establishment of Mera Yuva Bharat for development of youth
The government has approved the establishment of an autonomous body Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) for development of youth and youth-led development.

  • It will provide equitable access to youth to actualize their aspirations and build Viksit Bharat. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said that there are nearly 40 crore youth in the country who are in the age group of 15-29 years.
  • The Minister said, this Mera Yuva Bharat will be dedicated to the nation on 31st October, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

CM Adityanath declares Gangetic Dolphin as U.P’s aquatic animal
Uttara Pradesh Chief minister Yogi Adityanath declared the Gangetic Dolphin as the state aquatic animal and emphasized on the need to maintain purity of ponds and rivers.

  • Gangetic Dolphins are found in rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Chambal, Ghaghra, Rapti, and Gerua. Their estimated population in the state is around 2,000.
  • He proposed training individuals from villages connected to the Tiger Reserve as guides, aiming to create employment opportunities and raise awareness within the community.

IGNOU, ICAI inks MoU to enhance academic collaboration
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has recently renewed and revamped its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to enhance their academic collaboration.

  • This MoU provides ICAI students with an opportunity to acquire academic qualifications without compromising their practical knowledge during their articleship. Both ICAI and IGNOU will play a pivotal role in providing students with a balanced blend of academic and practical exposure.

ICICI Bank launches ‘iFinance’, a single-view for savings and current accounts across banks
ICICI Bank announces the launch of ‘iFinance’, enabling crores of customers-retail and sole proprietors, to get a consolidated view of their savings and current accounts in one place.

  • Customers of other banks can also benefit from this facility, which ICICI Bank has introduced by leveraging the Account Aggregator ecosystem, on the Bank’s digital platforms, namely the iMobile Pay app, Retail Internet Banking (RIB), Corporate Internet Banking (CIB) and InstaBIZ, the Bank’s mobile app for businesses.
  • The ‘iFinance’ facility is available across our mobile banking and internet banking platforms which provide ease of access to account information to the customers. We believe this new feature will help the users to conveniently monitor and manage their finances.


BUSINESS & ECONOMY

IMF sticks to 2.5% growth forecast for Pakistan
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has decided to keep Pakistan’s economic growth forecast at 2.5%. This figure remains consistent with the IMF’s previous report and is in line with official projections, although it falls short of the official target by 1%.

  • The global lender released its flagship report, the World Economic Outlook, at the start of annual meetings in Morocco.
  • Like the World Bank, the IMF did not accept Pakistan’s 0.3% GDP growth claim for last year. The new report has shown an economic contraction of 0.5% in the previous fiscal year, which was the last year of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government.

Bharti Group to buy out AXA’s 49% stake in life insurance 
Bharti Group has signed an agreement with its partner AXA to acquire the latter’s 49 per cent stake in Bharti AXA Life Insurance.

  • Bharti Life Ventures, the group’s holding company for Bharti AXA Life Insurance, will become the sole owner of the life insurance post the stake sale, it said in a release. The transaction, expected to be completed by December 2023, is subject to receipt of regulatory approvals.

Rohit Sharma hits fastest World Cup hundred by an Indian in 63 balls in IND vs AFG match
Rohit Sharma recorded the fastest World Cup hundred by an Indian in 63 balls during the match against Afghanistan in Delhi.

  • The 36-year-old surpassed Virender Sehwag’s 81-ball hundred against Bermuda in the 2007 World Cup. Rohit also broke the record for most hundreds in the World Cup with his seventh century across three editions, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of six from as many seasons.
  • Rohit also equalled the record to become the fastest batter to cross 1000 World Cup runs, reaching the mark in just 19 innings. He became the fourth Indian to the 1000-run mark behind Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Virat Kohli.

Manikanta Hoblidhar smashes men’s 100m National Record at NOAC 2023
H.H. Manikanta broke the men’s 100m National record with a fine performance in the 62nd National Open athletics championships at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

  • In the semifinal heats round, Manikanta seared past the finish line with a timing of 10.23s, erasing the previous mark set by Amiya Mallick (10.26s) in 2016. Odisha’s Mallick, incidentally, was in the heats alongside Manikanta, and finished fourth (10.58s).

MRPL wins Petroleum Ministry’s innovation award
Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd., (MRPL) has won “Best Innovation in Refinery” Award for the second year in succession from the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

  • This award for 2022-23 was received amid stiff competition from indusry giants, including IOCL, BPCL and HPCL, said a release.
