Giriraj Singh launches SAMARTH campaign to promote digital transactions at Gram Panchayat Level
Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Shri Giriraj Singh launched the ‘Campaign on Promoting Digital Transactions in 50000 Gram Panchayats’ under the AmritMahotsav in Lucknow.

  • The Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India is running a “Campaign on Promoting Digital Transactions in 50000 Gram Panchayats” which started from 1st February 2023 and will continue till 15 August 2023 under the AzadiKaAmritMahotsav.
  • The key thrust of the campaign is to promote Digital Transactions in rural areas, particularly among women.

Goa signs MoU with Uttarakhand to strengthen Tourism Cooperation
The officials of the Government of Goa and the Government of Uttarakhand have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate towards enhancing the tourism landscape of both Goa and Uttarakhand. 

  • The MoU is aimed at promoting bilateral cooperation in the travel and tourism sector and facilitating travel between the states to increase the number of tourists visiting Goa and Uttarakhand respectively.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan declares state as fully e-governed; first in country
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared the southern state as India’s first fully e-governed state where an entire range of government services have been digitised so that they can be provided to the citizens promptly and transparently.

  • The Chief Minister, after declaring the state as totally e-governed, said it would not only create a network of government offices and citizens, but would use technology for Kerala’s development and empower the people by bridging the digital divide.
  • It would also fast track the journey towards a knowledge society and economy with total e-literacy, he said at the ‘Total e-Governance Kerala’ event.

Gupshup launches GSPay payment app for feature phones
Gupshup.io, a conversational engagement platform, has unveiled a groundbreaking solution that enables UPI payments for feature phone users through its native app called GSPay.

  • This innovative approach allows seamless payment experiences using SMS, eliminating the need for internet connectivity.
  • GSPay eliminates the need for users to input numeric digits or go through an IVR call process to make payments, and with this, feature phone users can now scan QR codes to make payments.

Axis Bank launches ‘Sarathi’, a digital onboarding platform for POS Terminals
Axis Bank launched ‘Sarathi,’ a first-of-its-kind digital onboarding journey for merchants to adopt Electronic Data Capture (EDC) or Point of Sale (PoS).

  • Unlike the time-consuming traditional onboarding process, which can take several days, Sarathi offers merchants a streamlined and hassle-free experience, the company said.

SEBI approves HDFC Bank as new owner of HDFC AMC
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has granted approval for a change in control of HDFC Asset Management Company (HDFC AMC) due to the amalgamation of HDFC Ltd and HDFC Bank Ltd.

  • This move paves the way for HDFC Bank to become the new owner of HDFC AMC, subject to compliance with applicable regulations.

Microsoft launches Jugalbandi, an AI-driven chatbot for rural India
Microsoft launched Jugalbandi, a generative AI-driven multilingual chatbot accessible via popular messaging platform, WhatsApp.

  • The bot has been especially made to cover areas of rural India which aren’t easily penetrated through media and lack access to government’s welfare activities.

Indian-origin man becomes first turban-wearing ‘Lord Mayor’ of UK city
Jaswant Singh Birdi, a local British Sikh councillor based in Coventry for central England, born in Punjab has created history by becoming its first turban-wearing Lord Mayor.

  • Before taking charge as the Lord Mayor, he served as a local councillor in the city for 17 years, representing Bablake Ward for the past nine years, following two terms of office in the 1990s in the Hillfields Ward.
  • Besides being a councillor, Birdi has also been actively involved in setting up religious, social, and community projects in Coventry.

RN Jayaprakash re-elected as President of Swimming Federation of India
N. Jayaprakash and Monal D Chokshi were re-elected President and Secretary of the Swimming Federation of India (SFI) at its annual general body meeting.

  • The event was held with the aim to facilitate the election of new office-bearers who will steer the future of swimming in India.

India’s AI supercomputer ‘AIRAWAT’ ranked 75th in Global Supercomputing list
The AI Supercomputer ‘AIRAWAT’, located at C-DAC in Pune, has been ranked 75th worldwide. It was announced at the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC 2023) in Germany in the 61st edition of the Top 500 Global Supercomputing List. It places India atop the list of AI supercomputing nations worldwide.

  • The AIRAWAT PoC of 200 AI Petaflops integrated with PARAM Siddhi – AI of 210 AI Petaflops gives a total peak compute of 410 AI Petaflops Mixed Precision and sustained compute capacity of 8.5 Petaflops (Rmax) Double Precision. The peak compute capacity (Double Precision, Rpeak) is 13 Petaflops.
