Uttarakhand CM launches ‘Lakhpati Didi Yojana’ to Empower Women in the State
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ fair at Survey of India Maidan, Hathibarkala in Dehradun. The fair is part of an initiative undertaken by the BJP government to empower women in the state.

  • The Rural Development department of the Uttarakhand government has made preparations to make 1.25 lakh women from self-help groups ‘lakhpatis’ (earning over Rs 1 lakh) by 2025. As part of this initiative, the chief minister launched the ‘Lakhpati Didi Yojana’.
  • According to government officials, by the year 2025, which would coincide with the completion of 25 years of the formation of the state, 1.25 lakh of the 3.67 lakh women belonging to self-help groups will become ‘lakhpatis’ under a targeted livelihood initiative, as their annual income would cross Rs. 1 lakh.

Centre sets up Radhakrishnan Committee for Higher Educational Institutions
The Centre set up a high-level panel to strengthen the assessment and accreditation of higher educational institutions. The committee has been formed under the chairmanship of K Radhakrishnan, chairperson, Board of Governors, IIT Kanpur. He is also the chairperson of IIT Council Standing Committee.

  • The mandate of the Committee includes strengthening assessment and accreditation processes and preparing a road map for the National Accreditation Council envisioned in the National Education Policy, 2020.


India tops list of countries with Cheapest Manufacturing Costs
India has edged past China and Vietnam to be ranked as the country with the cheapest manufacturing cost, as per a list compiled by US News and World Report.

  • On a scale of 100, India has scored cent percent when it comes to cheap manufacturing costs, the survey conducted by the American media company suggested.
  • The country has an overall ‘Open for Business’ score of 37, the report said. It added that India has scored low on other scales – 16.2/100 when it comes to ‘favourable tax environment’, 18.1/100 in the ‘not corrupt’ sub-category and 3.5 in ‘transparent government policies’.

Chqbook, NSDL Payments Bank tie up to launch zero-balance digital current account
Chqbook, a neobank for small business owners, has launched a first-of-its-kind digital current account.

  • Small business owners like kiranas, chemists, among others, can open a current account instantly on the Chqbook App from their smartphone and in a language they are comfortable with. The current account is available in eight languages making it more accessible and easy to understand.
  • The all new digital and instant current account facility is a timely innovation for more than 63 million small businesses in India. It furthers Chqbook’s vision of financial inclusion by empowering small business owners to access financial services – current accounts, lending and insurance, on their smartphones via the Chqbook App with no paperwork, to run and grow their business.


Subhrakant Panda named as President of FICCI
The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) named Subhrakant Panda as its next president.

  • Panda, the Managing Director of Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA), currently serves as the senior vice-president of FICCI.
  • FICCI said Panda would succeed Sanjiv Mehta as president of the apex chamber at the conclusion of its 95th AGM to be held on December 16-17.


Switzerland created record for operating the longest passenger train
Switzerland is now home to the world’s longest passenger train. The train has 100 coaches, measures 1910 metres and consists of 4,550 seats. The train was seen passing through the mountainous landscape in the Swiss Alps.

  • Celebrating the 175th anniversary of Switzerland’s first railway, the country’s railway operators came together to create the new Guinness World Record-holding train which tows 100 carriages, weighs 2,990 tons, and measures 1.91 km (1.19 miles) long.

Noted Malayalam writer Sethu received Ezhuthachan Award 2022
Noted Malayalam fiction writer Sethu has been selected for the Kerala government’s prestigious ‘Ezhuthachan Puraskaram’ this year in recognition of his overall contribution to Malayalam language and literature.

  • He focussed on modernising the literature by standing beyond the definitions of movements and trends, the minister said.
  • A banker by profession, the 80-year-old’s noted works include ‘Pandavapuram’ and ‘Atayalangal’ (novels) and ‘Petiswapnangal’ and ‘Sethuvinte Kathakal’ (short story).

Amit Dasgupta honoured with a member of the Order of Australia Award
Amit Dasgupta was appointed as an Honorary Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) for his service to the Australia-India bilateral relationship.

  • Dasgupta is a tireless promoter of Australia-India relations, challenging the nations’ governments and people to realise the underlying potential of a stronger bilateral relationship.
  • Dasgupta was instrumental in establishing the Australia-India Youth Dialogue. Now in its second decade, the Dialogue is a permanent fixture of the bilateral relationship and fosters connections between Australian and Indian young people.


Haryana CM Launched ‘CM dashboard’ for Live Monitoring of Departments
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched the “CM dashboard” and said the portal will have real-time data of all departments and decisions taken on major schemes.

  • The portal will also have information about decisions taken by the administrative wing on major schemes. This will enable tracking of methodology and analysis of reports, further helping in comparison of old and new data.
