# Quantitative Aptitude: Data Interpretation Set 14

The following DIs are based on Exam Pattern as are asked in Prelims Exams of IBPS and SBI and other exams.

Directions (1-5): Study the following pie chart and table carefully to answer the following questions.

The pie chart shows the percentage of students in 5 sections of class 10. The table shows the ratio of boys to girls in each section and also the ratio of students who want to opt for Commerce and Arts in Class 11. 1. What is the number of boys in all the sections?
A) 452
B) 660
C) 585
D) 700
E) 645
Option B
Solution:

[2/5 * 30/100 + 3/10 * 20/100 + 4/5 * 25/100 + 4/5 * 10/100 + 3/5 * 15/100] * 1200 = 660
2. Number of students who want to opt for Arts in sections B and C together is approximately what percent less than the number of students who want to opt for Commerce in sections C and D together?
A) 10%
B) 6%
C) 16%
D) 14%
E) None of these
Option B
Solution:

In section B, Arts = 3/10 * 20/100 * 1200
In section C, Arts = 2/5 * 25/100 * 1200
Solve, total = 192
In section C, commerce = 3/5 * 25/100 * 1200
In section D, commerce = 1/5 * 10/100 * 1200
Solve, total = 204
So required % = (204-192)/204 * 100 = 6%
3. If 25% of students who will opt for Arts in sections A and E gets shifted to Commerce, then what will be the total number of students who will opt for Commerce from these 2 sections?
A) 448
B) 506
C) 685
D) 443
E) 432
Option E
Solution:

Arts in sections A and E = 1/6 * 30/100 * 1200 + 7/15 * 15/100 * 1200 = 60 + 84 = 144
Now 25% of this gets shifted so 25% of 144 = 36
Students in A + E = 45/100 * 1200 = 540
So Commerce opting = 540 – 144 = 396
And now after shift = 396 + 36 = 432
4. What is the ratio of students who want to opt for Commerce in sections A and D to students who want to opt for Arts in sections B and C?
A) 42 : 31
B) 33 : 15
C) 27 : 16
D) 17 : 23
E) 29 : 15
Option C
Solution:

Commerce in sections A and D = 5/6 * 30/100 * 1200 + 1/5 * 10/100 * 1200 = 324
Arts in sections B and C = 3/10 * 20/100 * 1200 + 2/5 * 25/100 * 1200 = 192
324 : 192
5. The number of students who want to opt for Commerce in section E forms what approximate percent of the number of students who want to opt for Arts in sections A and B?
A) 76%
B) 80%
C) 65%
D) 73%
E) None of these
Option D
Solution:

Commerce in section E = 8/15 * 15/100 * 1200 = 96
Arts in sections A and B = 1/6 * 30/100 * 1200 + 3/10 * 20/100 * 1200 = 132
So required % = 96/132 * 100

Directions (6-10): Study the following bar graph and answer the following questions. 1. What is the total number of children who are in section B in all the classes together?
A) 1775
B) 1625
C) 1595
D) 1535
E) 1525
Option E
Solution:

150+425+425+200+325 = 1525
2. What is the respective ratio of the total number of students in sections A, B and C in all the classes together?
A) 24 : 21 : 19
B) 18 : 17 : 16
C) 71 : 61 : 57
D) 48 : 42 : 37
E) None of these
Option C
Solution:

Section A: 1775, Section B: 1525 and Section C: 1425
3. Number of students of section B in class 3 forms approximately what percent of the total number of students of section B from all the classes together?
A) 24 %
B) 18%
C) 41%
D) 38%
E) 28%
Option E
Solution:

Section B, class 3 = 425
Total in section B = 1525
So required % = 425/1525 * 100 = 28%
4. Number of students of section A in class 1 forms what percent of total number of students in class 1 together?
A) 41.67%
B) 44.16%
C) 55.24%
D) 46.64%
E) None of these
Option A
Solution:

Section A, class 1 = 250
Total in class 1 = 250+150+200 = 600
So required % = 250/600 * 100 = 41.67%
5. Total number of students in class 2 is how much % less than in classes 4 and 5 together?
A) 24.62%
B) 28.43%
C) 26.76%
D) 20.50%
E) None of these
