Directions(1-5): Find the relation between x and y and choose a correct option.

1. I. 4x + 7y = 209
II. 12x – 14y = -38

x>=y
y>x
x>y
x=y or relation cannot be established.
y>=x
Option D
I. 4x + 7y = 209
II. 12x – 14y = -38
By equation I × 2 + equation II,
8x + 14y = 418
12x -14y = -38
20x = 380
=> x = 380/20 = 19
From equation I, 4 × 19 + 7y = 209
=>7y = 209 – 76 = 133
=> y = 133/7 = 19
x=y

2. I. 10x2 – 7x + 1 = 0
II. 35y2 – 12y + 1 = 0

y>x
y>=x
x=y or relation cannot be established.
x>=y
x>y
Option D
I. 10x2 – 7x + 1 = 0
II. 35y2 – 12y + 1 = 0
I. 10x2 – 7x + 1 = 0
=> 10x2 – 5x – 2x + 1 = 0
=> 5x (2x – 1) – 1 (2x – 1) = 0
=> (5x – 1) (2x – 1) = 0
=> x = 1/5 or 1/2
II. 35y2 – 12y + 1 = 0
=> 35y2 – 7y – 5y + 1 = 0
=>7y (5y – 1) – 1 (5y – 1) = 0
=> (7y – 1) (5y – 1) = 0
=> y = 1/7 or 1/5
x>= y

3. 1. 4x2 – 32x + 63 = 0
II. 2y2 – 11y + 15 = 0

y>=x
x=y or relation cannot be established.
x>=y
y>x
x>y
Option E
I. 4x2 – 32x + 63 = 0
II. 2y2 – 11y + 15 = 0
I. 4x2 – 32x + 63 = 0
=> 4x2 – 14x – 18x + 63 = 0
=> 2x (2x – 7) – 9 (2x – 7) = 0
=> (2x – 7) (2x – 9) = 0
=> x = 7/2 or 9/2
II. 2y2 – 11y + 15 = 0
=> 2y2 – 6y – 5y + 15 = 0
=> 2y (y – 3) – 5 (y – 3) = 0
=> (y – 3) (2y – 5) = 0
=> y = 3 or 5/2
x > y

4. I. 16x2 + 20x + 6 = 0
II. 10y2 + 38y + 24 = 0

y>x
x>y
y>=x
x>=y
x=y or relation cannot be established.
Option B
I. 16x2 + 20x + 6 = 0
II. 10y2 + 38y + 24 = 0
I. 16x2 + 20x + 6 = 0
=> 8x2 + 10x + 3 = 0
=>8x2 + 6x + 4x + 3 = 0
=>2x (4x + 3) + 1 (4x + 3) = 0
=>(2x + 1) (4x + 3) = 0
=>x = -1/2 or -3/4
II. 10y2 + 38y + 24 = 0
=>5y2 + 19y + 12 = 0
=>5y2 + 15y + 4y + 12 = 0
=>5y (y + 3) + 4 (y + 3) = 0
=>(y + 3) (5y + 4) = 0 4
=>y = -3 or -4/5
x > y

5. I. 18x2 + 18x + 4 = 0
II. 12y2 + 29y +14 = 0

x=y or relation cannot be established.
y>x
x>=y
x>y
y>=x
Option C
I. 18x2 + 18x + 4 = 0
II. 12y2 + 29y +14 = 0
I. 18x2 + 18x + 4 = 0
=> 9x2 + 9x + 2 = 0
=>9x2 + 6x + 3x + 2 = 0
=> 3x (3x + 2) + 1 (3x + 2) = 0
=> (3x + 1) (3x + 2) = 0
=> x = – 1/3 or – 2/3
II. 12y2 + 29y + 14 = 0
=>12y2 + 21y + 8y + 14 = 0
=>3y (4y + 7) + 2 (4y + 7) = 0
=> (3y + 2) (4y + 7) = 0
=> y = -2/3 or -7/4
x >= y

6. Directions(6-10): Following pie-chart shows the percentage distribution of the total population of six different cities and the table shows the percentage of adult population in them.
(Population of City A = 1287000) 7. What is the total non – adult population of City F?
123055
157080
152450
145899
112450
Option B
In City F, adult population is 72%.
So, population of non-adults is 28%.
= 5500000 × 10.2/100 * 28/100
= 157080

8. What is the total adult population of City C?
350246
301250
255000
337260
332500
Option D
Population of A = 1287000
Total population of all six cities= 1287000/23.4 × 100
= 5500000
Adult population in C = 5500000 × 8.4/100 × 73/100
= 337260

9. The total population of City A is approximately what percentage of the total population of City D?
123.8%
112.5%
110.5%
100%
90%
Option A
A = 55 × 23.4/100 lakh
D = 55 × 18.9/100 lakh
Required % = 23.4/18.9 × l00
= 123.8%

10. The total adult population of City B and C together is approximately what percentage of the total population of all six cities together?
15%
21%
10%
25%
5%
Option B
Adult of city B and C
= 5500000 * (21.6 × 68 + 8.4 × 73)/100*100
= 550 × (1468.8 + 613.2) = 550 × 2082
Total population of all six cities = 5500000
Required % = 550 * 2082/5500000 *100
= 20.82% = 21%

11. The total population of City D is approximately what percentage more than the total population of City E?
10%
5%
8%
6%
4%
Option D
Total population of D = 18.9% of 55 lakh
Total population of E = 17.9% of 55 lakh
Required% = (18.9 – 17.9)/17.9 * 100
= 100/17.9 = 5.58% = 6%(approx.)
